After I started this wall hanging, a routine mammogram led to my breast cancer diagnosis. This project became a distraction from my fear and grief. It became a tactile version of my Invader with fabric and thread. The appliqué “cells” are beginning to fray and deflate (thank you, chemo). With gratitude for early detection, I’m “making sense” of my diagnosis by speaking openly about it, checking in with everyone: have you had your annual exam?
