Prep Requirements: In advance of class, Libs recommends that you do some cutting preparation so that you can spend more time focusing on the piecing and trimming of the block during our session. If you can’t get to it, that’s okay! This block requires lots of cutting and trimming so these steps will still be done during class. If you need tips on how to cut strips, check my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@LibsElliott
At home, you can prepare the following: From black fabric, cut (x4) each: 3” x 6” strips 2.5” x 6.25” 2.5” x 9.75” 2.5” x 13”
From white fabric, cut (x4) each: 2.5” x 8.25” 2.5” x 11.5” 2.5” x 9.25”
Choose which one of your 6 fabrics will be your center square and from that fabric, cut (x1) 4½” x 4½” square. From your remaining 5 fabrics, cut (x4) strips of each colour: 2.5” x width of fat quarter (short or long side are both fine).
Pack up your cut pieces and bring along your remaining fabric ‘just in case’ you need more/ make an error. See you at QuiltCon!
Based on Libs' Electric Pineapple quilt pattern, participants will spend three hours creating a striking 24" pineapple block, all achieved without any specialized templates or rulers. Working on this large scale not only enhances visual appeal but also infuses a modern flair into this traditional block pattern. Additionally, Libs will review an accompanying cheat sheet, providing insights on drafting and sewing this block in additional sizes outside of class. Participants will learn how to efficiently cut multiple strip sets at once and how to accurately piece, iron and trim a large-scale pineapple block. We will also review how fabric choices can affect the visual impact of this block. Sewing machines generously provided by event sponsors!
