Required Supplies: - Two small quilt sandwiches, basted in your preferred method. Tops can be pieced or whole-cloth. Should measure between 12”x12” to 18”x24” - Minimum 2 spools of piecing-weight thread - one lighter, one darker (bring more if you like) - Preferred marking tools: Hera marker, chalk pencil, or painters tape. Feel free to bring a variety to try.
Prep Requirements: Please prepare two quilt sandwiches to the measurements stated above (top, batting, backing). Should be basted with thread, pins, or adhesive.
Students will learn to create a unique machine quilting effect using extended thread tails left exposed instead of buried. This technique adds an eye-catching layer of visual interest, which Laura first discovered through organic experimentation. Students will receive instruction on how the original effect was achieved and will engage in imagining new applications for the technique. They will use small sample quilt sandwiches and the sewing machines provided to practice applying the technique to their own work. QuiltCon attendees who admired this unique quilting treatment on the instructor’s quilt, which hung in Atlanta in 2023, entitled Back to Therapy, now have the opportunity to learn this technique themselves! Sewing machines generously provided by event sponsors!
