Required Supplies: - Fabric to make each star: -- A - centre squares - five 3” squares - total 3” x 15” -- B - centre small triangles - four 2 1/2” x 4” pieces - total 5” x 8” -- C - NSEW triangles - four 4” squares - total 8” square -- D - pointy elongated triangles - four 3” x 6” pieces - total 6” x 12” -- E - large corner triangles - eight 4” x 6” pieces - total 8” x 12” - Fabric scissors - shared scissors will be provided but you may wish to have your own to maximize class time - Fabric pen/pencil - 50wt thread - Karen's preference is Aurifil - Hand sewing needles - Karen uses Jeana Kimball Size 9 Embroidery/Redwork - Print out of templates if not purchasing acrylics. In this workshop, Karen will introduce the skill of hand piecing with her Night Sky Star quilt block. Students can set out to make a single star to use as a cushion/ bag or continue to make enough for a quilt. Students will learn the skill of hand piecing, learning to cut and mark up the pieces and the stitches used to sew together by hand. Students will also learn about fabric choices and placement. Students will also learn and appreciate the mindfulness of creating something completely by hand and enjoy the transportability of a hand pieced project.
