Required Supplies: - Fabric: a mini charm pack, or charm pack would be plenty fabric and give you some variety. You could also bring a bundle of scraps instead, anything as small as a 1" square is usable, you will need 24 pieces that are at least 2" square. If you want the same background for the blocks in the mini project an eighth of a yard is more than enough. Try to choose fabrics with a finer weave such as batiks, Ruby Star Society, Art Gallery Fabrics, Ruby + Bee solids etc. - Thread: Bring your favourite hand piecing thread. Fiona uses 50wt cotton from Aurifil. - Needles: Your favourite small sharp hand piecing needles such as Clover Black Gold Quilting Betweens, or John James size 12 needles. - Scissors: Small sharp scissors with a sharp point. We will be cutting pieces out by hand and a sharp tip is a necessity. - Marking pen - a marking pen or pencil that shows up on your chosen fabric. (e.g. Frixion, Legami erasable, graphite pencil, white Gelly Roll etc.) - Glue - A glue suitable for glue basting such as a Sewline glue pen, or a glue stick with a precision tip. (A normal glue stick would work, but is a bit messier!) - Templates - The Curvelitos template set will be provided and is covered by the required materials fee.
Optional Supplies: - Thread wax, or thread gloss. - Fine tip tweezers - A seam roller for flattening seams before trimming, there will be a few shared irons provided in the workshop room. - A small cutting mat and 25mm rotary cutter are optional for trimming, there will be shared cutting mats and rotary cutters provided in the workshop room. - Small ruler for trimming. 2.5" or smaller is useful. A 1.5" square ruler is perfect. - Curvelets templates if you want to see how they can work together with the Curvelitos templates.
In this class students will learn to hand sew a 1/2" finished quarter circle block. We'll cover the quarter, half, and full circle shapes and how to combine Curvelitos with Jen Carlton-Bailly's Curvelets for some really interesting petite piecing potential! It's a perfect class for tiny piecing enthusiasts or as a add-on from the Curvelets classes from previous QuiltCon workshops!
