Optional Supplies: There will be shared cutting stations in class, but some people like to bring their own to save time. If your travel plans allow, you may bring a 12"x18" cutting mat, rotary cutter, 6” or smaller square quilting ruler, 6"x18" quilting ruler. Note that your workstation will not be large enough to accommodate a large cutting mat of your own.
Prep Requirements: We will be making two blocks in class, and will not complete the entire quilt in class, so you may choose to bring all the fabric, or prepare only the fabric we will use in class:
For both options: To prepare for class, press all your fabric. Cut the width-of-fabric strips according to the pattern, and subcut into rectangles, but DO NOT cut the curved pieces from Templates. We’ll do that in class!
Option 1: For the complete quilt, acquire yardage as listed in the pattern for the quilt size of your choice.
Option 2: If you want to minimize your work before class, prepare the following: ■ One 8.5”x16.5” rectangle of Fabric 1 ■ One 8.5”x16.5” rectangle and one 8.5”x8.5” square of Fabric 2 ■ One 8.5”x16.5” rectangle and one 8.5”x8.5” square of Fabric 3 ■ Two 8.5”x16.5” rectangles of Fabric 4 ■ One 4.5”x16.5” rectangle of Fabric 5 ■ One 8.5”x16.5” rectangle of Fabric 6
Are you intimidated by curves but love precision piecing? Learn all the skills you need to make Karen’s Cool as a Cactus quilt. The design features pieced curves, a unique border treatment, and color palette that supports a transparency illusion. This workshop will begin with an exercise in creating transparency effects, then we work from paper templates to accurately cut and piece large diameter curves. Students must purchase the digital pattern. Leave class with at least one block and border complete. Sewing machines generously provided by event sponsors!
