Required Supplies: Allie recommends that students follow the prep instructions for 6-16 Fat Quarters in coordinating fabrics (prints or solids are fine). Allie's example shown uses 16 FQs and finished is about 48” x 50”. With that in mind, bring 6-8 FQs worth of fabric to class but make sure it’s from a variety of your total number of FQs (mix and match!).
Optional Supplies: - Seam roller The below items will be provided in the workshop room to share amongst students but it is highly recommended students bring their own to maximize class time: - Small personal cutting mat - Small ruler - Rotary cutter
Prep Requirements: From each Fat Quarter: cut (4) 9” x 6” rectangles, (6) 1” x 20” strips
Improv quilts can be a whole new level of fun, and easier for some, when you add constraints. Working with specific rules allows you to play freely in that space without pressure from the unknown. In this workshop, Allie will guide you through an improv quilt where every block has the same rule, an inset X, while showing how much room there is to play in that space. Students will learn how to use inset strips, pattern match when inserting fabric strips, and how to create the illusion of movement across a quilt. Sewing machines generously provided by event sponsors!
