Pedestal is an exercise in using high-contrast hand quilting to create a layer of design that both informs the piecing and is entirely separate from the piecing. The curves were hand pieced and the blocks were machine pieced to complete the top. The quilting motif was marked with a ruler and quilted with sashiko thread.
