Zerschmettert was started in a workshop with Maria Shell. Working from my own photo, I created a simplified composition, drafted templates for the major shapes and improvisationally pieced each area of the quilt. The name reflects the background approach and family challenges during the year. Ditch quilted by machine to stabilize, then hand quilted to create texture and add detail. Finished with a facing.
