Many of us have a special place in our hearts for traditional quilts with right angles and grids. Deviating from that structure can be difficult. In this quilt I started with a grid and then broke free around the edges, adding fans and scallops. It became a modern sampler. I used bright colors to match the joy of leaving of your comfort zone, even if that introduces the new challenge of binding these joyful extensions.
